Pet Day 2015

Here are Frank and Heidi's decorated bikes. They both did an amazing job! Piata and her mum created a collage of Piata's work from pet day which looks fantastic! Please send me any pet day pictures you have that we could put on our blog.

Baking Bread (procedure writing)

Last week Room 5 had a delicious smell throughout the day as our bread was baking. We have been learning about procedure writing and wrote about the steps to baking bread. Eating the hot steaming bread was our favourite step!

Taylor and Kayla using the Green Screen

Taylor and Kayla have set up an easier technique when they green screen. Kayla sticks her writing on the back of Taylor's chair to read from and Taylor rests the iPad on the back of the chair to keep it steady. Room 5's great film makers!

Stop Motion - Kai

This term we are learning about healthy food choices. Room 5 showed our new kids and Tracey from KKPS how to create a stop motion movie using healthy food. It was a yummy task!

Assembly Term 4

Here are some photos Whaea Bronwyn took of Room 5 playing games with their Grandparents. They had a great morning wheel barrow racing, egg and spoon dashing, and gumboot throwing!

Welcome To Term 4

We are lucky to have 5 new children in Room 5 this term. Everest, Heidi, Jaxon and Vincent have moved up from Room 4, and Joe has come from Riverview School to join us. Sadly we say goodbye to Alex, Monique and Whaea Bronwyn this week. We look forward to hearing about your new adventures. Whaea Bronwyn will be popping in to see our assembly this Friday 23rd 1:30. You are all invited to come along. We have some lovely photos of Greats and Grands day, these will be posted after our assembly along with our other work we will be sharing.

Duffy Theatre 2015

Today we had a fun show from Duffy Theatre. They taught us the importance of reading and how a library card helps you get free books to borrow. This would be a great idea for the school holidays!

Fun Lunch Time

We had a fantastic fun lunchtime today! Room 1 and 2 made all kinds of games for us to play, water balloons, sack races, face painting and much more! Thank you all for your support.

Jump Rope For Heart 2015

Thank you for supporting our morning of skipping with a gold coin for the heart foundation. Look how high J.T jumped! Piata had fantastic skipping hair! Well done Saphera who won Room 5's jump off! Saphera skipped the longest without stopping.

Zoo Visit 2015

Here a just a few of our photos from our visit to Auckland Zoo, we had an amazing trip! The kids were fantastic and had so much fun. A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to help, and also to all of you who have helped with our fundraising activities. We couldn't do it without you! Onesie Day September 2015

Today we wore our onesies and pjs to school. When Mrs Stevenson came to class they were all asleep!

Learning to Play Softball

Last week three coaches came to our school and showed us how to play softball. We hit the ball off a tee with a long bat and ran as fast as we could to base one before the fielding team got the ball there. We are all looking forward to this Thursday when they come back!

Science Fair 2015

What a great afternoon of Science we had today! This year the focus was Physics. We got to walk around the classes to see what everyone had been working on. Buster took some photos of the afternoon to share with you. One of Room 5's favourite science investigations was Lukas's balloon hovercraft in Room 9. You will see a short clip of this in Buster's following presentation.

Room 5's Assembly

Here are some of our presentations from assembly. We were learning to blend paint with a sponge and painted lions using this skill for their mane. Our next movie is a science investigation on friction and toy cars. Taylor took most of the video for his group. Come along to school on Wednesday to see other investigations throughout the classes.

Recycling With Anouk

Today Anouk came to Room 5 to show us how to recycle and what happens to our rubbish. How could we turn our trash into treasure? Sunita wants to make telephones reusing tin cans. Taylor wants to make a train with boxes and cardboard. Frank wants to use the recycling numbers on plastic containers to teach kids their numbers.

Room 7's Visit to Room 5

Last term Room 7 came to visit Room 5 and shared with us their narrative stories. We really enjoyed listening to their creative written work that they had made into picture books. Learning with Room 9

We had a great morning on Thursday working with Room 9 to create Stop Motion movies. We were learning how to make toy cars look like they were zooming around the school by themselves. First we created our storyboards, set the scene, and created an action sequence for one event. We had plenty of cars around Room 5 as we are also learning about force and motion this term.

Welcome back to Term 3!

This term we welcome Sione, Cash, Tristan, Christopher, Sydney-Rose and Stevie-Leigh to Room 5! We have an exciting term ahead including the Zoo trip September 10th-11th. Library day will continue to be Thursday and spelling tests are on Friday. I look forward to meeting all the new families!

Learning to Ride Bikes with Mr Bell

 Last Friday Mr Bell came to school to teach us bike skills. We had so much fun riding around the courts. We were also learning how to fit our helmets safely, and how we need to stand on the left side of the bike when we push them around. Mr Bell is coming back to teach us more about bike riding and to show us some games on the bikes. Remember to bring shoes that will help us pedal this week.

Room 5 and 6's Visit to Wailtangi 2015

On Wednesday 17th June Room 5 and Room 6 went to Waitangi to celebrate Matariki. We had so much fun learning to weave flax, playing games and making kites. Here is a movie Cameron helped Mrs Stevenson make about our trip.

Assembly Term 2

Great work today Room 5! I really enjoyed your assembly. Here are some of our videos. This a Stop Motion video made by Sunita, Kayla and Teziah. Taylor and Piata also helped with the background art. Kate and Alex used the green screen to video each other saying their Te Ra stories. They were learning to use adjectives to describe Te Ra. Here is our Te Ra art. We were learning how to blend with pastels.

We had so much fun with Room 2 making these videos. Our next step is to make one of our own. We are planning on retelling a traditional story and are going to work on the sequence for the storyboard this week!

Room 5's Kete Weaving

Caring Kids

This week we have been weaving a kete. We are going share our art to show our school value caring. We can fill other peoples kete with kindness by helping others.

Today we had Linzi our Duffy Books Role Model come to assembly. We heard all about being a co-driver in a rally car. Everyone received two free books to keep at home. Reagan was presented his books at assembly.

Gina is helping us get ready for athletics day this term.

Here we are learning to push the shot put as far as we can.

Elgregoe's Magic Show

This morning we were entertained by the magician Elgregoe. Not only did he share amazing tricks with his clever birds but he also taught us about using our WITS. W = Walk away, I = Ignore, T = Tell someone, S = Say stop.

We've had a great start to the year. Home communication books have gone home today with new spelling words circled for this week. Your child can correctly spell the highlighted words on the list.
